Tom ’n’ Jerry
The classic hot holiday mug of whiskey, dark rum and frothy beaten egg, topped with nutmeg
Ingredients
- ¾ oz. Calvert Reserve (blended whiskey)
- ¾ oz. dark rum
- 1 egg
- 1 tablespoon fine granulated sugar
- Hot milk or water
- Nutmeg, for grating
Method
- Beat the egg: Separate the egg and beat the yolk and the white separately.
- Combine: Mix the yolk and white together in a mug. (The card lists the sugar but doesn’t say when to add it. Beating it into the egg is the usual way.)
- Add the liquor: Add the whiskey and rum.
- Fill: Fill the mug with piping hot milk or water and stir well.
- Serve: Grate nutmeg on top and serve.
A grown-up drink (our note, not part of the card)
- This is an adult drink with whiskey and rum, so it’s not for kids.
- The egg isn’t cooked, so pasteurized eggs are a good idea, especially for anyone pregnant, elderly or with a weak immune system.
- Calvert Reserve was a popular blended American whiskey. Any blended whiskey, bourbon or brandy works in its place.
