Karen’s Homemade Barbecue Sauce

A simple sloppy-joe-style sauce, written on notepaper and signed “Karen”

For 1 lb. hamburgerStovetopQuick

Ingredients

  • ⅓ cup ketchup (possibly ½ cup)
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon mustard
  • ⅛ teaspoon Tabasco sauce, or horseradish
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • ¼ teaspoon chili powder
  • 1 pound hamburger

Method

  1. Brown the meat: Brown the hamburger and drain the fat (our step; the card only says the sauce is enough for 1 pound).
  2. Add the sauce: Stir in the ketchup, salt, mustard, Tabasco or horseradish, water, brown sugar and chili powder.
  3. Simmer: Cook until it isn’t runny.

As written: Karen noted “I used” above horseradish, so she made it with horseradish instead of Tabasco. The ketchup amount is hard to read and could be ⅓ or ½ cup.
